The Ethiopian government said it will start providing visa on arrival for all African citizens as of November 9, 2018.

This indicated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s chief of Staff, Mr. Fitsum Arega. “Consistent with PM Abiy Ahmed’s vision of a closer and full regional integration in Africa—where minds are open to ideas and markets are open to trade, Ethiopia will start on arrival visa to all Africans starting from November 9, 2018,” he twitted.

It is recalled that Ethiopia started issuing online visa for all tourists last June. Currently Ethiopia allows travelers with e-Visa to enter Ethiopia via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Entry via other ports of entry is not allowed.

The validity of Ethiopian e-Visa starts from the date you intend to enter Ethiopia not from date of issue. After e-Visa application has been approved, an approval letter is sent to designated email address of the applicant. Alternatively she/he may check the status of her/his request for e-visa directly from the website and download it from her/his e-mail if approved.
