Ethiopia’s Amhara Region Revenue Bureau, which planned to collect a total of 100.3 billion birr from regular revenue and urban service during the 2018 fiscal year (started July8, 2025), has secured 69.1 billion Birr.
As of June 11, 2026, the Bureau has achieved 81.4 percent, from regular revenue and 9.2 billion Birr, or 59.6 percent, from urban service revenue, bringing the total to 78.3 billion Birr, or 78 percent of the target.
This is indicated by Mr. Tazebachew Tasse, Director of the Tax Education and Communication Main Work Process of who noted that this revenue exceeds the amount collected during the same period of the 2018 fiscal year by 28 billion Birr.
He pointed out that while regular revenue collection has shown good performance, urban service revenue collection has not met expectations. Therefore, city leaders and revenue institution professionals should work in coordination during the remaining days to improve collection.
In current revenue collection performance, the Woldia City Administration Revenue Directorate ranked first, while the Welkait Tegede Zone Administration Revenue Directorate, Kombolcha City, and North Shewa ranked second through fourth, respectively.
On the other hand, the Debre Markos City Administration Revenue Directorate, Debre Tabor City Administration Revenue Directorate, and South Gondar Zone Administration Revenue Directorate showed low performance, and he urged them to work harder during the few remaining days.
According to Mr. Tazebachew, 98 percent of the complaints submitted by taxpayers were resolved, and solutions were also provided for 96 percent of appeal cases.
Finally, he stated that efforts are being made during the remaining limited days of the fiscal year to achieve the revenue target by contacting taxpayers who have not paid their taxes, addressing their complaints, and encouraging them to pay the taxes they owe.
