The state owned medical services provider St. Peter Specialized Hospital has officially launched its 2026 summer volunteer program, which aims to provides free health screening, medical consultation, and treatment services for 20 million Ethiopians.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba announced that, during this year’s summer season, 20 million citizens across Ethiopia will receive free health screening, consultation, and medical treatment. She added that around 120,000 people are expected to benefit from the program at St. Peter Specialized Hospital alone.
Dr. Mekdes noted that the initiative, implemented through collaboration between the public and private sectors, will make a significant contribution by providing medical care to members of the community who cannot afford treatment.
Dr. Tadele Burka, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Health, Social Development, Culture, and Sports Affairs in the House of Peoples’ Representatives, said that well-coordinated and integrated efforts have helped expand volunteerism and charitable health services across the country.
He added that coordinated efforts among health institutions at different levels will enable communities to access better and more efficient healthcare services.
The Chief Executive Officer of St. Peter Specialized Hospital, Dr. Abraham Eshetu, said that more than 30 private healthcare institutions are participating in this year’s volunteer campaign to provide free health services to the public. He also stated that the hospital aims to reach more than 120,000 citizens through its summer volunteer free medical service program.
In addition to routine medical care, the hospital will also provide specialist medical services, CT scan, and MRI services free of charge as part of the campaign, Dr. Abraham added.
