Electronic Tax Collection in Ethiopia Growing, Says Ministry

The Ministry of Revenues of Ethiopia says the number of taxpayers using electronic payment methods has been increasing as he country collected more than 281 billion Birr in ten months through e-payment.

This is stated by Ms. Elsabet Ashenafi, Coordinator of the Revenue Accounts Consolidation Team under the Revenue Accounts Administration Directorate of the Ministry of Revenues of Ethiopia. She stated that during the first 10 months of the Ethiopian fiscal year started July 8, 2025, more than 281 billion birr was collected through the e-payment electronic payment system.

According to Ms. Elsabet, taxpayers have increasingly preferred this electronic payment method. Explaining the reasons behind its popularity, she noted that the service is fast and enables taxpayers to make payments easily from wherever they are without having to visit tax centers in person. In addition, it is cost-effective and user-friendly.

Ms. Elsabet further encouraged taxpayers who have not yet joined or started using the electronic tax system to register and utilize the electronic payment method for their tax payments. She emphasized that doing so would help them save both time and money.
