Afar Region of Ethiopia Inaugurates Bridge, Road

Recently built with investments of over 430 million Birr new road and steel bridge projects constructed in the Afar Region of Ethiopia are inaugurated this week.

The new infrastructures are said will strengthen transportation connectivity between zones and districts, as well as to enhance the economic benefits of local communities, have been inaugurated and officially opened for service, accordng to the information from the Afar Region Communications office.

The development projects were inaugurated by the President of the Afar Region, Awol Arba, and the Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Areas, Abraham Belay. Among the inaugurated projects is a 64-kilometer gravel road and accompanying steel bridge connecting the Gabi Rasu and Hari Rasu zones.

It was stated that this infrastructure will create sustainable connectivity by eliminating transportation barriers between the two zones, as well as between the districts of Gelaalo and Semurobi. A total of 361 million birr was spent on the project, and it is expected to benefit more than 81,000 residents.

In addition, an 18-kilometer gravel road connecting Hadale’ela and Semurobi districts was also inaugurated today. With a budget allocation of 72 million birr, the project is expected to significantly improve the daily movement and livelihoods of more than 16,000 citizens by linking them with district and zonal centers.

Overall, 433 million birr was allocated for the two development projects. The funding was obtained through the Lowland Areas Livelihood Improvement Project operating under the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowland Areas.

These infrastructure projects are believed to help resolve transportation challenges in the region and enhance the community’s overall access to development opportunities.
