July 16, 2026

The Amhara Regional State earned more than USD 726.7 million from the export of pulses, oilseeds, and coffee during the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, according to the region’s Trade and Market Development Bureau.

The Bureau’s Director of Crop and Industrial Inputs, Lingerew Habesha, said that significant efforts were made throughout the fiscal year to increase foreign exchange earnings from various agricultural export products.

He noted that more than 5.4 million quintals of products were supplied to international markets, including pulses such as mung beans, soybeans, and haricot beans, as well as oilseeds including sesame and niger seed, in addition to coffee.

He added that the products were delivered to the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) in a timely and proper manner before being exported, contributing to the country’s foreign currency earnings.

Overall, the region generated USD 726.7 million in export revenue from pulses, oilseeds, and coffee during the fiscal year, according to a report by FMC.
