The Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) has signed a 3 billion Birr contract with Alpha Engineering and Capital Engineering, engineering and equipment supply firms, to implement an electricity infrastructure rehabilitation project.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Electric Utility, Getu Geremew (Eng.), said the project will improve electricity supply in urban areas, enabling customers to receive more reliable and stable power services.
He emphasized that the project should be completed within the agreed timeframe and in accordance with the required quality standards.
The project will be implemented in the cities of Ambo, Nekemte, and Asosa, where it will modernize and strengthen electricity infrastructure to enhance the reliability of power supply.
As part of the rehabilitation and upgrading project, 325 kilometers of medium-voltage power lines will be rehabilitated and upgraded.
The utility stated that the improvements will not only increase the capacity of the electricity network but also help reduce power outages and technical problems.
In addition, 235 transformers will undergo rehabilitation and upgrading. Of these, 70 transformers will be upgraded in Ambo, 121 in Nekemte, and 44 in Asosa.
The project is expected to be completed within two years and will be financed through a ETB 3 billion grant from the World Bank, according to information the Ethiopian Electric Utility provided to Fana Digital.
