Ethiopia has attracted $1.34 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first five months of the current budget year of Ethiopia started July 8, 2021.

This is indicated by Lelise Neme, Investment Commissioner of Ethiopia who presented investment opportunities in the country for the Ethiopian diaspora in Addis Ababa on Tuesday. She indicated that the fact that the county managed to attract $1.34 billion in the face of the hardship the country has been experiencing suggests the untapped potential of the country and the opportunity it offers for potential investors.

At the investment forum organized by the Commission to inform the Ethiopian diaspora community who came home for holiday, she expressed her hope that out of the 800 attendants of the forum half of them will consider investing in their motherland – Ethiopia.

At the forum held at Skylight Hotel in the capital, officials of different ministries such as, transport, health, trade and industry have presented the investment opportunities Ethiopia offers for its diaspora.

It is recalled that same period last year (July 2020 to November 2020) Ethiopia has attracted $1.1 billion FDI.
