Ethiopian Consultative Commission to Convene Tigray’s Agenda Collection in Addis Ababa

March 27, 2026

The Ethiopian National Consultative Commission announced that it has decided to hold the Tigray Regional State Consultation process in Addis Ababa from April 1-3, 2026, due to the lack of capacity to hold the consultation process in the region.

The Ethiopian National Consultative Commission made this statement to journalists regarding the consultation process of the Tigray region. It said that the commission has been making many efforts to include and participate in the national consultation process of the Tigray region, like all other Ethiopian regions, but it has not been able to create a favorable environment for it.

The commission has been holding more than 22 consecutive discussions with the interim administration of the region, political parties, civil society organizations, scholars and other entities, in order to ensure that the Tigray region is not left out of the consultation process and must participate, explained the commission’s chief commissioner, Professor Mesfin Araya.

Although the national consultation reached a consensus to resolve the fundamental problems of the region and Ethiopia, it is said that the Commission has not been able to identify participants and set an agenda in accordance with the Commission’s operating procedures.

The Commission’s Council has decided to hold an agenda-setting and meeting forum for the participants of the national consultation conference in Addis Ababa from April 1 – 3 2026, in which the people of Tigray Region and various stakeholders will participate through their representatives, said the Commission’s Chief Commissioner, Professor Mesfin Araya.

The Chief Commissioner explained that when the agenda-setting process in the Tigray region was planned to be carried out in Addis Ababa, a wide-ranging discussion was held involving political parties, institutions and associations, the interim administration and other stakeholders.

The Ethiopian National Consultative Commission explained in a statement that more than 400 representatives of the region and Tigray natives in Addis Ababa are expected to participate in the agenda-setting process, which will be held for three days in Addis Ababa.

The National Consultative Commission was established for three years to organize ideas that would lead to solutions to the fundamental contradictions and differences in Ethiopia, but it has been given additional working time due to conflicts and instability in various parts of the country.
