The Government of Ethiopia today launched a new digital government services delivery system using a bus.
Dubbed, Mesob Mobile Bus Service, and the new services is launched today by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) and aimed at delivering essential government services directly to the customers. During the launching PM Abiy stated the need for a fundamental cultural change in the national service delivery system.
He said that among the five development pillars we have planned, we are working with determination to use technology as a key tool in the service sector to improve efficiency and accessibility of services.
Although we have only recently begun implementing the “Mesob” one-stop service delivery system, the high level of customer satisfaction observed in Mesob services clearly confirms the effectiveness of this working model, the Prime Minister said. This indicates the need to further expand the system.
He also noted that the newly inaugurated Mesob mobile service is part of this ongoing effort, and that the government will continue working to make these integrated services more accessible so that citizens can use their time effectively and achieve meaningful time savings.
The specially equipped bus has been designed as a fully functional, self-contained service center, integrating modern technologies and systems to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery.
The bus includes a queue management system that organizes the flow of services and also incorporates various payment options. It partially operates using an 8-kilowatt solar power system and is equipped with reliable internet connectivity.
In addition, cameras have been installed to monitor service safety and transparency. This innovative mobile unit provides solutions and offers the following key services from eight different government institutions:
• Issuance of new Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
• Business license issuance and renewal
• Medical examination required for obtaining a driver’s license
• Renewal of residence ID and birth registration
• Issuance of driver’s licenses and renewal of vehicle license plates
• Payment of road fund fees through the Ethiopian Postal Service
• National ID registration and data correction
• Prepaid electricity services provided through the Ethiopian Electric Utility
Overall, this mobile bus integrates services from eight institutions into one platform, offering citizens a convenient, efficient, and accessible solution without the need to travel long distances or visit multiple offices.
