Ethiopia’s participation in the 77th UN General Assembly (UNGA77) was very successful, said the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Meles Alem.

“Ethiopia’s participation in the 77th UN General Assembly was very successful, and the Ethiopian delegation led by Demeke Mekonnen made good use of the multilateral platform,” he said. “We have had the opportunity to show the great success of our country in education, environmental protection, and especially the Green Legacy Initiative to the rest of the world,” he added.



He made the comment briefing the media today about Ethiopia’s participation in the 77th UN General Assembly (UNGA77) and various diplomatic activities over the week. According to Ambassador Meles, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, who led the Ethiopian delegation presented a speech at the General Debate covering the policy direction of the Ethiopian Government.

The DPM and FM’s speech, according to Ambassador Meles, emphasized Ethiopia’s dedication to the AU-led peace process, the trilateral negotiations over the GERD, and support for Africa’s bid for a permanent UNSC seat.

On the sidelines of the UNGA77, Mr. Demeke had also held a total of 20 fruitful bilateral discussions with representatives of different governments and multilateral organizations, Ambassador Meles added.
Ethiopia discussed its experiences with the Seqota Declaration and the Green Legacy Initiative, both of which it employed to successfully reduce the rate of child stunting and combat climate change, respectively.



The spokesperson also discussed the current visit of the President of Somalia to Ethiopia, as well as the results of calls made to Ethiopians living abroad to support their country’s causes, which have received encouraging responses.
