The President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki, is to expected to arrive Addis Ababa, Ethiopia tomorrow (14 July 2018) for a three-day official state visit after two decades.

His visit follows last Sunday visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Asmara, Eritrea.  President Isaias is coming to Addis Ababa upon an invitation extended to him by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ethiopia. “President Isaias’ visit will further bolster the friendship and multifaceted ties between the peoples of Ethiopia and Eritrea,” the statement said.

His visit is expected to restore the relationship between the two countries and discuss the implementations of the recent peace and friendship agreement the leaders of the two countries have signed in Asmara last Monday.

The two countries went to war between 1998 -2000 over a border conflict. They began peaceful dialogue after two decades of ‘no war no peace’ relationship.

Ending the hostility was initiated by the reformist Prime Minister Abiy of Ethiopia who announced a few weeks ago his country’s readiness to accept and implement the December 2000 UN mediated Algiers Agreement without any preconditions.
