Ethiopia jails Nigerian for cocaine trafficking

Ethiopian court sent to jail a Nigerian national for entering the country carrying 175 grams of narcotic drug known as, cocaine.

He is sentenced to serve five years and six months in Ethiopian prison and pay a fine of 3,000 birr, according to Ethiopian Federal Police report aired on state broadcaster ETV on Sunday. The passenger departed from Sao Paulo, Brazil was travelling to Lagos, Nigeria, when caught during transit at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.



He was caught after police officers at Bole International Airport suspected the passenger and found out that had swallowed 175 grams of cocaine before his departure from Sao Paulo, according to the report.

Recent police reports show that drug traffickers are using Bole International Airport of Ethiopia to channel illegal drugs. The Sao Paulo – Addis Ababa – Lagos route is often used by narcotic traffickers.
