Armed group assassinates an Ethiopian official

Unidentified armed group has opened fire on an Ethiopian government official and killed Abdulahi Sojar, Gumz Benishangul Council and chairman of economic affairs standing committee.

He was killed while travelling to Nekemt town in Oromia region starting his journey from the capital of Benishangul Gumz Region, Assosa, according to the Communications Affairs Office of the Region of Ethiopia.



The report stated that the attack happened this morning around 7.30 A.M. has also led to the injury of two passengers, including one woman. Benishangul Gumz is one of the nine regional states of Ethiopia located on the western part of Ethiopia bordered with Ethiopia’s Amhara and Oromia regions. Benishangul Gumz is one of the least developed region of Ethiopia, but reported to be very reach in natural resources including gold and huge fertile farm lands with greenery and cultural beauty, among others.
