The Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia aims to boost its annual poultry and dairy production within four years to make affordable the products at every household level.

The Ministry indicated that it has set target to increase milk production from 5.8 billion liters last year to 10.3 billion liters per year after four years. The state minister of Agriculture of Ethiopia in charge of animal resources development, Fikru Regassa, target is set to dramatically increase egg production from 3.2 billion to 9.1 billion.



The Minister also indicated that chicken production is also expected to increase to 240,000 tons per year after four years from 90,000 tons at the moment. He also indicated that the country also plans to increase its annual honey production to 296,000 tons after four years from 147,000 tons at the moment.

The report of the Ministry also shows that villages across the country are identified to produce milk, egg, and honey in volume and quality as part of the recently launched national plan of ‘Yelemat Turufat’, which ambitiously targeted to make affordable and accessible animal products at every household level in Ethiopia within four years.
