Grade 12 students in Ethiopia sit for national exam

Some of the over 900,000 grade 12 students in Ethiopia today sit to take their national exams.

Due to the increasing in exam cheating and theft of exams, the Ministry of Education has decided to divide the number of students seating for the exam in two and give the exam in different university campuses. Today grade 12 students who are social science students have started taking their exams in different universities.



Over the past few days, the Ministry has been engaged in transporting the students from their areas to different university campuses, according to the information from the Ministry of Education of Ethiopia. It is indicated that after the social science students have completed their exam, grade 12 natural science students will also take their exams in a similar manner in different universities located in different parts of Ethiopia.

To prevent exam cheating the Ministry has also transported teachers who monitor the students during the exams. Among the universities selected to host tens of thousands of grade 12 students for the national exam includes, Addis Ababa University, which has taken over 38,000 students, Jimma University, Assosa University, Hawassa University, Arba Minch University, and Dilla University, among others.



In a related development, dozens of students have survived light and heavy injuries when a bridge linking one campus of Hawassa University with the other has collapsed this morning. It is recalled that stealing national exam papers has been common in Ethiopia over the past few years.
