Ethiopia, Sudan conclude security meeting

Higher government officials from Ethiopia and Sudan have concluded a three days security meeting today that focused on addressing conflicts across the border and organized crimes.

The meeting held in Addis Ababa included Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, and the Sudanese delegation led by Cabinet Affairs Minister Omar Bashir Manis. The two sides discussed on how to permanently address security issues and organized crimes, which involves human and arms trafficking as well as abductions along the border of the two countries.



The participants of the meeting have agreed to stop the merging security threat in the border area, which is disrupting the livelihoods of the farmers, according to the report of FBC. Ethiopia and Sudan share a common boundary of over 1,600 kilometres. Media reports show that farmers from the two countries living in the border area have been confronting over claims of farm land ownership.
