Court finds two Ethiopian ex-officials guilty
Court finds two Ethiopian ex-officials guilty

Two former Ethiopian Government officials namely Bereket Simon, often referred as the right hand of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, and Tadesse Kassa, A.K.A. Tinkishu are found guilty of corruption charges.

The Supreme Court of Amhara Region of Ethiopia finds Mr. Bereket Simon and Mr. Tadesse Kassa guilty of the charges related to selling half of the share of the largest brewery in Ethiopia, Dashen Brewery, to a foreign company, Duet. The court finds the third individual businessman and inventor (Eng. Daniel Gizaw) not guilty, according to the state broadcaster ETV report.



Different courts in Amhara Region of Ethiopia have been looking into the corruption charges against the two former officials who were board members of TIRET Corporate. TIRET Corporate is owned by Amhara National Democratic Movement recently re-branded as, Amhara Democratic Party (ADP), which is one of the four member political parties of the ruling coalition, Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary (EPRDF).

EPRDF re-branded itself as Prosperity Party this year after one of its member party Tigray peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) declared its departure from the new coalition.

Among the charges against the two former officials include selling of about 51% share of Dashen Brewery to Duet, a United Kingdom investment company. In addition to Dashen Brewery, currently TIRET fully owns 13 companies including textiles factories, logistics, transport construction materials and
