Qatar bank to explore business opportunities in Ethiopia

Qatar With the aim of exploring business opportunities, Development Bank (QDB), a development institution established to invest in and develop local ventures and support private sector companies in the state of Qatar, is set to hold a matchmaking event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event will open on Monday January 27, 2020 at Hyatt Regency Hotel. It is aimed to offer both Ethiopian and Qatari business representatives from the private sector exposure to potential opportunities aiming to increase their footprints in both countries, according to the organizers. The Ethiopian Matchmaking event 2020 will start with an open forum where Ethiopian Government officials, strategic Government agencies and key private sector leaders will meet their counterparts from Qatar.



The trade mission of Qatar led by the Bank aims to bring Qatari companies into contact with potential Ethiopian agents, importers, distributors/ wholesalers, local businesses and government agencies to discuss and explore possibilities of mutually beneficial trade relationships. Several identified Ethiopian companies have already confirmed their meeting appointments with selected Qatari companies to discuss and explore possibilities of mutually beneficial trade relationships.

It is stated that the event will then progress into pre-arranged appointments for B2B networking opportunities, led by key players from sectors of mutual interest from both countries. “The event will present a great platform for representatives from the private sector from both countries to meet and discuss potential cooperation,” the Bank said in its press statement.

The upcoming Ethiopian Matchmaking event 2020 will be led by Mr. Hamad Salem Mejegheer, Executive Director of Export Development and Promotion of Qatar Development Bank. He will head a business delegation from Qatari companies interested in meeting potential buyers, agents, distributors and establishing export/import partners from various sectors such as construction, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, packaging etc.

“Ethiopia is one of the continuously growing East African destinations of international exports and foreign investments thanks to its business climate and growing economy. It was one of the fastest growing economies in the world with a GDP growth rate of 6.8% in 2018. We are honored at Qatar Development Bank to organize this initiative, and we are certain that it will be of great benefit for both Qatari and Ethiopian businesses alike,” said Mr. Mejegheer.

The Qatar delegation will be led by the Qatar Development Bank, CEO: Mr. Abdulaziz Nasser Al-Khalifa.
