Goldwater, a subsidiary of Gold Group and the latest entrant in the bottled water sector announced the launch of their Goldwater brand in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The locally owned investment company has established two manufacturing plants and three water bottling machinery and packaging equipment with the capacity to produce 170,000 bottles per hour.
Both manufacturing plants are located in Oromia region with the Goldwater still water plant in Burayu and Goldwater Sparking water plant in Ambo, built with the investment of over 600 million Birr (about $19.3 million).
During the press briefing, the , “The increased demand from consumers lead us to join the spring water bottling market,” Biruk Adugna, managing director of Goldwater. We are confident that our high production capacity will help support this increased demand.”
The manufacturing plant has created employment opportunities for over 300 employees, 85% of whom are comprised from the local community. The company is using a wide, local network of suppliers and distributors to reach consumers in Addis Ababa and surrounding areas.
As part of their CSR endeavours, Goldwater is in the process of finalizing collaborations with St. Pauls Hospital and has secured one year’s budget to supply dialysis treatment water with varying mineral content to support critical kidney patients who can’t afford the treatment.
In addition, Goldwater also supplies their mineral rich waste water for cattle rearing purposes to local farmers for free.
Gold Group was established over six years ago and has been working in the manufacturing, construction, real estate and hospitality sectors. The company produces still and sparkling water under the brand name “Goldwater” and plans to expand distribution of their product with exports to East Africa and the Middle East.
