Ethiopia Airlines plane with 139 passengers aboard crash lands on Thursday at Entebbe International Airport runway.

An Ethiopian Airlines plane B-737-800 crash landed at Entebbe International Airport on Thursday morning around 7 AM. Following the incident Entebbe International Airport was forced to stop its normal operation for few hours, according media reports from Uganda.



The plane was not damaged and is being towed to the ramp. It is indicated that the cause of the incidents currently being investigated by the authorities.

In its press statement on the incident Ethiopian Airlines said:”Ethiopian Airlines B-737-800 aircraft with registration number ET-ATV with flight number ET338 on 03 January 2019 on a regular scheduled service from Addis Ababa to Entebbe, Uganda, skidded off the runway by a few meters this morning at Entebbe international airport during landing.”

“Passengers and crew were safely deplaned and were taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular clearance process. There is no damage to the aircraft and it is being towed to the ramp. We apologize to our valued customers, who were on-board the flight for the inconvenience. An alternative flight is being arranged to complete the return flight and rebook the passengers, who were booked to travel from Entebbe to Addis Ababa,” it said.

Flights into Entebbe were on hold, according to Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Spokesperson Vianney Luggya.”…We are now towing the Aircraft off the runway and normal flights out of Entebbe International Airport have resumed,” said Luggya.

Ethiopia’s national carrier has over a dozen flights in a week, which connect Addis Ababa with Entebbe.
