A special envoy of Ethiopia led by the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn, on Sunday met with Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The delegation has discussed about the Great Ethiopian Reconnaissance Dam (GERD), currently under-construction in Ethiopia. mediated by the United States and the World Bank, Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan have been negotiating about water filling period of GERD and related issues for the past few weeks. Meanwhile they failed to reach agreement.
The Ethiopian delegation to Egypt has handed over a message from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt, according to the report of the ruling party affiliate media- FBC.
It is indicated that the delegation involves, Nigusu Tilahun, Press Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dina Mufti, among others. According to Egypt Independent report President al-Sisi has told the delegation that the “negotiations would open up a new horizon of development and cooperation between Egypt and Ethiopia.” He stated that Egypt aims to balance interests between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan with the negotiation.
