The Ministry of Revenue of Ethiopia said it has collected around 248.6 billion Birr tax revenue during the first nine months of the current budget year started July 8, 2021.

Compared to same period the previous year the tax revenue of the country has increased by 17.1 percent (36.3 billion Birr). Meanwhile the Ministry, which initially planned to collect about 267.6 billion Birr in nine months, has said it has archived 93 percent of its target.



Commenting on the performances, Lake Ayalew, Minister of Revenue stated that the achievement is very encouraging in the face of the war and corona pandemic that have negatively impacted the economy of Ethiopia.

The Ministry stated that some 145.3 billion Birr was generated from domestic taxes, while 103.3 billion is from import and export trade taxes. The target of the ministry for the whole year is to collect 360 billion Birr.



Last year the total budget of Ethiopia was over 681 billion Birr including the additional some 120 billion Birr approved following the bloody war in the northern part of the country.
