Humera town of Ethiopia and its surroundings, which have been without electricity for more than two years due to the war in northern Ethiopia, is set to get electricity in less than a week.

This is indicated today by the Technical Support Bureau of High Power Transmission Lines Maintenance of Ethiopian Electric Power. According to the manager of the office, Tesfaye Gustuye, the maintenance work that has been going on on the power transmission line from Humera – Wolkaite – Shiraro has been completed. He said that during the inspection work carried out on 474 power-carrying poles from Humera to Shire, accidents of interruption were encountered in all the three combined lines at 92 places.



He pointed out that a maintenance team made up of six teams is working day and night to repair the 230 KV power transmission line of Shiraro-Shire, which suffered heavy damage due to the war. According to Mr. Tesfaye, in the maintenance work of the Tekeze-Shire-Humera power transmission line, it has been possible to completely repair the damages in 62 places.

He pointed out that there are damaged power transmission lines in an area called Salakhlekha. The manager said that the repair work will be carried out quickly and the Shire substation will get electricity within a week. The manager also said that the restarting of the Shire power distribution station will make a great contribution to the Shire city and its surroundings as well as the Humra city.

He pointed out that during the first inspection of the 230 KV power transmission line from Keze-Axum, it was confirmed that the line was not damaged. He also announced that inspection works will be started in Gole Gon to carry out the maintenance of the 132 KV electricity transmission line from Abiy Add- Adwa.

According to Mr. Tesfaye, the Axum and Adwa power distribution stations will start providing electricity again in the next three weeks after completing the maintenance work from Abiyadi-Adwa. The operation staff of the facility’s power transmission lines and distribution stations from different parts of the country are participating in the ongoing maintenance work.
