As the fighting gets worse in Amhara region between the Ethiopian military and Fano (informal armed group in Amhara region), the Government of Ethiopia on Friday announced a state of emergency that last for six months.

The Government Communication Service today explains indicating that the instability in the region has hindered movement of fertilizers and agricultural products. Minister of Government Communication Service Dr. Legesse Tulu indicated that the armed group in the region, which he called a group of robbers, has been engaged in robbing these products. He also indicated that the army bases found in Amhara region have been attacked by the group. Such incidents have forced the Ethiopian government ot declare state of emmergency, according to the minister.



Unless this group is contained, it will endanger the country’s stability according to Dr. Legesse Tulu. He indicated that the team of state of emergency has begun its operations with divisions that includes military, political and the like.

The Fano played critical role in supporting the Ethiopian army during its recent fight against the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF). Following the conclusion of the war in Tigray region, the federal Government of Ethiopia has launched a military campaign in Amhara region to disarm what it called, informal armed group.



Dr. Legesse Tulu’s statement came following the announcement of state of emmergency in Amahara region by the ministry of justice on Friday.
