By Sisay Woubeshet – The Addis Ababa City Administration on Saturday launched the construction of an express road to be used for public bus transport.

The Administration launched the 5.9 billion birr ( construction project in the the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Deputy Mayor Takele Uma. The 19.2 kilometres long road extends from Jemo-II to General Winget area. “Our city is growing & transforming daily, which puts strain on transportation operations. However, residents will now soon enjoy our new Bus Rapid Transit! Over a 5.9 billion birr cost & stretches 20km long from Gullele to Jemo,” twitted Deputy Mayor Takele Uma.



The construction of the road is awarded to a French compny, whose government has provided 49 of the construction cost as loan. The remaining will be covered by the Addis Ababa City Administration.

Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Takele Uma stated that over the coming years, his Administration is planning to construct several similar bus expressways to ease the current transportation problem.
