The Ethiopian Embassy in Washington D.C organized a hybrid fundraiser event and celebrated the successful third round water filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

On the occasion, Ambassador Seleshi Bekele applauded Ethiopians in the Diaspora and back home for their persistent support to the GERD in finance, advocacy, digital campaign, skills, research and all other aspects.



“The GERD is a magnificent symbol of Unity and testifies to our commitment to development” added Ambassador Seleshi. He also congratulated fellow Ethiopians for the successful filling of the 3rd round and the start of the 2nd turbine.

Ambassador Seleshi urged the need to scale up the support for this grand millstone until its completion. Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie, Ethiopia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, attending the event via Zoom mentioned the multifaceted significance of the GERD to augment the ongoing transformation aspirations of Ethiopia.



He also called for an unwavering backing to the GERD on every front to realize its successful conclusion. Participants in the program on their part vowed to continue their support to the project in all needed horizons.

The event was attended by over 200 via zoom in addition to the in-person attendants.
“We are here committed to Finish. Ethiopia Prevails with GERD” was the motto of the program.
