Sudan summons Ethiopian officials after a deadly military confrontation, which Sudan claimed initiated by the militia supported by the army.

Along the Ethiopia – Sudan border Ethiopian militia and Sudanese forces have been engaged in a deadly combat for three days, according to Al Jazeera report. Sudan summons Ethiopian officials after its army official is killed during the clashes between the two sides.



“Sudanese foreign ministry has summoned the Ethiopian charge d’Affaires in Khartoum today to protest the aggression of the Ethiopian militias that is backed by the Ethiopian army.The matter led to the killing of number of Sudanese military personnel and citizens, including a child,” the Foreign Ministry of Sudan said in a statement.

The confrontation between the two sides has now moved to a diplomatic talk. Farmers along the borders of the two sides, have been frequently clashing over land claims. The two countries have not yet finalized demarcation of borders that is causing clashes frequently though the two sides have formed border commission this month.

Sudan is known for hosting Ethiopian militias for many years including the current regime of Ethiopia which came to power in 1991 led by the late Meles Zenawi of Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Eritrean regime led by Isaias Afwerki.
