The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on Monday condemned what it calls the barbaric and cowardly attack on October 7, 2022, on the Tadjourah Regiment of the Djiboutian Army.

“It conveys its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the bereaved, injured, and missing, as well as to the people and Government of the Republic of Djibouti,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said in its press statement.

“The Government of Ethiopia stands in solidarity with the Government and people of the Republic of Djibouti at this difficult moment and expresses its full readiness to closely work together with the Government of the Republic of Djibouti in tackling the scourge of terrorism in the region,” it said.

It is recalled that an armed group named FRUD has indicated it has taken the attack in retaliation to “the provocations and arrests that the residents near the camp were subjected to, in addition to their armed attack on the front’s followers”.

The former Ambassador of Ethiopia in Djibouti who now is serving as ambassador of Ethiopia in the United Arab Emirates on his part twitted:”The terrorist attack on the Djiboutian border guard is a deplorable and absolutely unacceptable by any reason. It is an attempt to the proliferation of conflicts in the HoA. FRUD is a terrorist organization. Our condolences to the people of the Republic and the families of the martyrs.”

While on October 8, 2022, the current Ambassador of Ethiopia in Djibouti Berhanu Tsegaye has also condemned the act. “We Ethiopia|ns unequivocally condemn the cowardly & despicable attack committed against the Djiboutian Army. Our thoughts & prayers are with families, freinds & all Djiboutians. The likes of TPLF, Al Shabab & Armed FRUD has no iota of humanity & are enemies of peace in the #HOA,” he twitted.
