The government of Ethiopia is set to start tax education in all primary schools starting from grade one, the Ministry of Education of Ethiopia said.
The reason the county is not collecting enough tax from the economy is because of the lack of awareness about the significance of tax to the overall economy and the people.
The aim of launching tax education in Ethiopia is said will increase tax awareness in the society and combat tax dodging as well as contraband trade, according to the report of the state broadcaster – ETV. The education will start next Ethiopia calendar 2013 (in September 2020).
It is also stated that the majority of students graduating from schools at the moment lack enough awareness about the significance of tax. The decision to introduce tax education in primary schools was initially made by the Ministry of Revenue of Ethiopia. It is indicated that at primary school level tax education will be integrated in mathematics, social science and history.
