Ethiopia, Algeria officials discuss investment in pharmaceuticals

Nebiat Getachew Assegid, Ambassador Ethiopia to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, discussed with Dr. Abderrahmane Djamal Lofti Benbahmed, Algerian Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry on investment opportunities between the two countries in the pharmaceuticals industry.

The two officials met on August 16,2022 and discussed on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical between the two sisterly countries. Ambassador Nebiat briefed Minister Dr. Benbahmed that Ethiopia has a huge trade and Investment potential for Algerian pharmaceutical Industry and outlined the Ethiopian pharmaceutical regulatory and distribution landscape.



He added that Ethiopia has created a conducive environment for investors by creating pharmaceutical industrial parks among other incentives, according to the information obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

The Ambassador recalled the recent visit and discussion of President Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, to Algeria with President Abdulmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, in which they both underscored on the importance of strengthening commercial ties between #Ethiopia and #Algeria.

Dr. Abderrahmane Djamal Lofti Benbahmed, Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, on his part, noted that inter-agency cooperation should be enhanced between the relevant institutions of the two countries.



For this purpose, the two parties expressed their desire to enhance cooperation by signing a partnership MoU between Algerian Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health as well as between the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Materials – ANPP and its Ethiopian counterpart the Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration -EFDA.

He also expressed Algeria’s readiness to introduce the Algerian pharmaceutical industry actors to the Ethiopian market through exchange of visits and a pharmaceutical exhibition in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In conclusion, they both agreed to jointly work towards a robust cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals, according to the statement.
