The Netherlands government provides $31 million to Ethiopia

The Netherlands Government provides 877 million birr (around $31 million) to the Ethiopian Government for the construction of a new children’s hospital in Addis Ababa.

Equipped with modern The special children hospital to be built within (African Leprosy Research) ALERT hospital compound in Addis Ababa will have 300 beds for the treatment of patients, according to the information from Ministry of Finance of Ethiopia. The Netherlands Ambassador to Ethiopia, Bengt van Loosdrecht has signed the agreement with Ethiopian State Minister of Ministry of Finance, Admassu Nebebe, in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.



In a related development the Europe Union has provided 10 million euros for the government of Ethiopia’s social development program. The program will be implemented across the nation in 500 weredas (districts), according to the information from Ministry of Finance of Ethiopia which signed the deal with the EU in Addis Ababa this week.

The program aims to make transparent the services of local districts to the citizens, among others. The money will be used for the third round program, which has been implemented for the past eight years in 233 weredas.
