Ethiopia intel intercepts Al Shabaab’s terror plot in Addis Ababa

The government of Ethiopia said the national intelligence agency has intercepted Al Shabab’s terror plot in Addis Ababa.

The attempt was intercepted by Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) over the past few weeks, according to Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye, who briefed reporters on Friday afternoon. The unidentified number of organized terrorists were preparing to conduct terror attack in areas where many people will be found in the capital, Addis Ababa, including conference halls, according to Attorney General Berhanu.



He stated that the terror by Al Shabaab in Addis Ababa was planned to take place in collaboration with local individuals who were actively involved in designating the plot. Based on the information the government has obtained so far, the group, which was planning to undertake terror attack was assigned by Al Shabaab, according to Attorney general Berhanu.

The intelligence has put under control the suspects and evidences such as, photographs of target areas, passports and fake documents, before the group undertakes the attack, according to Berhanu, who stated that the government will reveal the details when the investigation is completed.

As the plot has an international by nature and has link with international terrorist group, we will reveal the details when we complete the investigation, he said appreciating the role of the intelligence office and the public in saving Addis Ababa from the planned terror attack.
