Ethio Telecom, the fully state owned telecommunications service provider in Ethiopia, today announced donating 100 million Birr (about $3 million) in support of the country’s effort to prevent the spread coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This is indicated by Firehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio Telecom, who stated that the organization will continue discharging its social responsibility. She also stated that Ethio Telecom will be providing discount mobile services package during the day time to help the people who are staying at home because of COVID-19 make more phone calls.



As of tomorrow from 6.00 in the morning to 4 pm, Ethio Telecom customers can make 30 minutes call and 20 domestic short messages for only five birr. Customers can also get 100 megabits of Internet and 20 short messages for five Birr. For 15 Birr customers can also get 250 megabits of Internet, make up to 30 minutes call and 20 domestic short messages. according to the CEO.

She also stated that Ethio Telecom has been engaged in awareness raising of COVID-19 through the voice messages people hear every time they make phone calls. The CEO also indicated that to help the public get relevant information on COVID-19, Ethio Telecom has launched three hotlines 994, 8335 and 952.
