The representatives of the Government of Ethiopia and the waring rebel group Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) are set to commence African Union mediated peace talks today in South Africa.
In its statement the Government of Ethiopia today said “…The Government of Ethiopia will be participating in AU convened peace talks to be held in South Africa. The Government of Ethiopia views the talks as an opportunity to peacefully resolve the conflict and consolidate the improvement of the situation on the ground brought about through the sacrifices of the ENDF (Ethiopian National Defense Force)”.
Meanwhile the statement of the Government of Ethiopia also stated that ENDF has continued taking control of major urban centers in the past few days. “The ENDF has succeeded in avoiding combat in urban areas while debilitating the military capabilities of the TPLF,” it said.
Confirmed video. Parts of Tigray controlled by Ethiopian National Defense Forces getting humanitarian aid that apparently had been hoarded by TPLF rebels – while TPLF claimed Tigray was “under siege.” #NoMore pic.twitter.com/wdLBvzjMws

“The delegation of the Govt of Tigray to attend the AU-led peace talks on #Ethiopia #Tigray have just arrived at South Africa. Pressing: immediate cessation of hostilities, unfettered humanitarian access & withdrawal of Eritrean forces. There can’t be a military solution!,” twitted Kindeya gebrehiwot, Central committee member of TPLF.
“The Government of Ethiopia is working in coordination with humanitarian agencies to continue providing humanitarian aid in these areas. It has also requested operators of essential services to expedite their preparation to resume services in these areas. The Government if also exploring ways in which public administration and social services in these areas could begin in consultation with the local population,” The statement of the Government of Ethiopia stated.
In #Ethiopia, Africa Union mediators apparently fail to understand that peace in Tigray cannot include the survival of the #TPLF as a viable political entity. During their control of power power in Addis for 40 years, the TPLF was corrupt, authoritarian, and tribalist.
