The Government of Ethiopia has said it has accepted African Union’s (AU’S) invitation to meet in South Africa over the weekend and start peace talks with the waring group in Ethiopia – Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF).

“The AU has issued an invitation for peace talks. The Government of Ethiopia has accepted this invitation which is in line with our principled position regarding the peaceful resolution of the conflict and the need to have talks without preconditions,” twitted Redwan Hussein State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.



The response of the Minister came after the news about AU’s invitation for both sides is disseminated today. The AU has issued an invitation for peace talks. The GoE has accepted this invitation which is inline with our principled position regarding the peaceful resolution of the conflict and the need to have talks without preconditions.

Ethiopia’s Ambassador to China, Teshome Toga on his part said, “The acceptance by the GOE is yet another show of commitment 2 peaceful resolution of the conflict. It is one more chance 4 the international community 2 support this effort, put pressure on the other party to reciprocate by dropping ifs n buts n give peace, alternative to war, a chance.”

The deadly war started in November 2020 has caused the death of tens of thousands of people from both sides and displacement of millions as well as destruction of properties worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
