The Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), which has invaded Amhara and Afar regions after the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Tigray region last June, has vandalized and looted a total of 2,921 health centers, the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia said.
The above figure includes health centers in Benishangul Gumz and Oromia regions, which are also vandalized by the TPLF partner – Oromo Liberation Front (OLF-Shene). Out of the total 40 hospitals, 450 health posts and centers are damaged in Amhara region, according to Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister of Health of Ethiopia.
He noted that the Ministry has been mobilizing resources including some 600 million Birr medicines and pharmaceutical equipment to provide mobile health services in these highly impacted areas.
As a result, eleven hospitals in Dessie, Hayq, and Kombolcha are partially maintained and began providing healthcare services to the people displaced by the war.
The Minister has also stated that phycological support to the victims mainly children, women and the elderly has to some extent been provided by the Ministry, according to the report of the state broadcaster – ETV.
