Eritrea reports first COVID-19 pandemic case

The Ministry of Health of Eritrea on Sunday announced this evening the first confirmed case of a Coronavirus patient (COVID-19).

The individual has arrived at Asmara International Airport from Norway with Fly Dubai at 7:00 a.m. LT this morning. The 39-year old patient is an Eritrean national with permanent residence in Norway.



The patient was quarantined promptly following the screening process at the Airport & diagnosed positive for COVID-19 after subsequent tests at the National Laboratory. The patient is receiving all necessary treatment at the moment, the MoH has stated, according to the information Minister of Eritrea Yemane G. Meskel’s twit.

Responding to the twit, “Stop all passengers flight’s to #Eritrea for the time being? Or quarantine all arrivals for 14 days at their own cost before they get access to entry. Everyone should take the responsibility. “Eritrean citizens abroad, #StayAtHome doesn’t mean fly home” stay were you are,” replied an individual with twitter handle – Elias Abeto.
