Ethiopia increases tax revenue 31 percent
Ethiopia increases tax revenue 31 percent

Tax revenue of Ethiopia during the first four months of the current year started July 8, 2022 has increased by 31.5 percent to about 163 billion Birr from same period last year.

In its report the Ministry of Revenue of Ethiopia indicated that it has achieved 97.88 percent of its target for the period. Speaking on Monday at performance evaluation meeting of the Ministry, Aynalem Nigusse, Minister of Revenue of Ethiopia said compared to same period last year the revenue has increased by 31.5 percent (39 billion Birr).



Out of the total tax revenue 105.24 billion Birr is collected from domestic revenue, while 57.74 billion birr is secured from international trade taxes, according to the Minister, whose recent appointment as minister is approved by Ethiopian parliament this morning.

At the meeting held at Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, Plan and project administration director at the Ministry, Fekadu Tadesse has indicated that some 11.2 billion Birr is secured through tax audit. Reports of the Ministry shows that Ethiopia’s tax income has been growing on average annualy over the past few years reaching 336.7 billion Birr last year concluded July 7, 2022 from 233.7 billion Birr the preceding year.
