The Government of the United States of America promoted ethical journalism education in various Ethiopian Universities.

With the aim of fostering a vibrant, ethical, and professional media landscape in Ethiopia, the U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa provided about 3,000 media and journalism books to Ethiopian universities located in various parts of the country.

These resources published both in Amharic and English languages, covering topics such as investigative journalism, financial reporting, and general news writing were distributed to representatives and deans of the departments of Journalism and Communication from Salale, Wachamo, Hawassa, Worabe, and Addis Ababa Universities.

The initiative aims to empower the next generation of Ethiopian journalists and communications professionals and enhance media education across the country. The university and U.S. Embassy representatives also used the opportunity to discuss collaboration and future partnership.

This latest initiative with five universities follows recent U.S. Embassy-sponsored trainings carried out in collaboration with the Addis Ababa University’s School of Journalism and Communication in Jigjiga, Jimma, Hawassa, Haramaya, Mekelle, Dire Dawa, Arba Minch, and Addis Ababa as part of a $500,000 grant awarded by the U.S. Embassy to Addis Ababa University.
