Out of the total 896,520 grade 12 students in Ethiopia who took the last national exam, only 3.3 percent (29,909) passed.
It is recalled that because of the speared of stealing of exams, the Ministry of Education of Ethiopia was forced to give the last national exam for grade 12 outside their localities by transporting them to different exam centers.
As a result, out of the total of the around 896,520 grade 12 students in Ethiopia who took the latest highly-supervised national exams, around only around 29,900 have passed obtaining over 50 percent marks.
Expressing his surprise, “the result shows how our education system and we as a society have failed,” said Berhanu Nega (PhD), Minister of Education of Ethiopia. Recently the Ministry of Education of Ethiopia has introduced a new practice-based education / system/syllabuses, which is being tested in some schools as of this year.
