The Minister of education of Ethiopia gave green light for schools closed because of the global pandemic, coronavirus, to be reopened in October.

In its statement, the Ministry stated that three weeks is given for schools to make all the necessary preparations and meet preconditions of the Ministry to welcome their students. The schools are expected to take all the actions recommended by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia to fight the global pandemic.



Making sure that students wear facemasks at all time, disinfecting the compound, providing sanitizer, and maintaining social distancing at all times are among the responsibilities expected from the schools. It also indicated that national exams for grade 8 and 12 will also take place with necessary precautions to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

With over 1,148 deaths, Ethiopia is among the top five countries hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Of the total about 71,700 reported cases in Ethiopia, around 29,500 have recovered while over 41,000 are active cases.
