Ethiopia vows to tackle inflation

The President of Ethiopia Sahle-work Zewde said tackling inflation will be one of the priorities of the Government during the current budget year.

Opening the Ethiopian Parliament this afternoon, President Sahle-work stated that inflation has been a major challenge for the people of Ethiopia and her government will work hard to improve inflation which has a burden for the people of Ethiopia and the economy in general. She stated that protecting the people with less income will be priority of the government by tackling inflation.



She noted that the Government has taken various policy and administrative measures that has resulted in reducing the impact of inflation on the people especially within the low-income bracket. Protecting the low-income people and those fixed income earners from the impact of inflation will continue to be the main focus of the government, according to the President.

According to the state agency, Central Statistics Agency, inflation has reached all time high in a decade to around 30 percent a few months ago.

She also stated that assuring food security through improving agricultural productivity will also be among the priorities of the country during the budget year of Ethiopia started July 8, 2022. She also mentioned the need to capitalize on the recent wheat irrigation farm, which enabled the country to cover hundreds of thousands of hectares with wheat crop during a single dry season.

President Sahle-Work also stated that the ongoing state-led tourist site development will also continue to improve the earnings of the country from its tourist attractions. The president also stated that the Government will work hard to complete government projects on time.



The Government of Ethiopia will also work hard in attracting potential foreign investors in different sectors, improve tax income, while improving good governance at all levels.

Commenting on the political front, the president indicated that the Government of Ethiopia will continue to find peaceful resolution to the war with the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF). Meanwhile she also stated that at the same time the Government of Ethiopia will not tolerate any provocation by TPLF.
