The Government of Ethiopia has expressed its appreciation to United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in helping the country preserve its natinal heritage.
This is indicated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mr. Demeke Mekonnen who on Tuesday met with Dr. Rita Bissoonauth, Director of UNESCO in Ethiopia, the African Union Commission, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
“Mr. Demeke appreciated UNESCO for its continued support for Ethiopia’s efforts to preserve and protect national heritage in terms of resources and technical assistance. Dr. Rita Bissoonauth, for her part, said the two sides should strengthen their relationship in promoting education, culture, and science,” said the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
The statement also stated that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also met with Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam, Secretary General of the Organization for Educational Cooperation (OEC).
“Mr. Demeke appreciated OEC for choosing Ethiopia as the seat of its headquarters, further affirming Ethiopia’s commitment to extend all the necessary support to the Cooperation. The Secretary General expressed his delight that Ethiopia would host the headquarters, citing numerous benefits, and expressed his hope that the Ethiopian government would support him in making the OEC’s endeavors a success,” it said.
