Addis Ababa Police captures 10,700 pistols, 99,785 bullets

The Addis Ababa Police Commission has said that it has seized 10,732 illegal pistols and 99, 785 bullets from arms dealers in the fist nine months of Ethiopia’s current fiscal year started July 8, 2018.

The nine months report of the Addis Ababa Commission NewBusinessEthiopia.com received shows that in collaboration the security agency and other partners, the Commission has also seized 30 Kalashnikov guns and four automatic machine guns. In addition, the Commission has also captured 18,974 bullets of Kalashnikov and other automatic machine guns.



The report indicated that though crimes in Addis Ababa has been declining, arms trade and circulation of illegal weapons in the city is a major concern. The number of crimes registered during the third quarter was 3492, which is 19 percent down from the number of crimes committed in Addis Ababa during the first quarter of the year.

The report also indicated that Addis Ababa Police Commission has seized illegally circulated foreign currencies including 181,379 U.S. dollars, 12, 620 pound sterling, 9930 euros, 4,615 Chinese yuan and 111, 145 Qatar and Saudi Arabia currencies.
