The Government of Saudi Arabia has deported 299 Ethiopian immigrants who were in Saudi prisoners for entering in the country illegally.
Saudi Arabia Airways has brought to Addis Ababa the deported Ethiopian on Monday. The returnees entered the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia illegally and were in jail, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia. Of the 299 repatriated 264 are women and 35 are children.
It is estimated that thousands of Ethiopians who entered Saudi Arabia illegally are in Saudi prisons. Recently Ethiopia’s council general in Saudi Arabia told media that only in a single prison found in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, some 16,000 Ethiopians are jailed.
