Safaricom Ethiopia, the first private telecom operation in Ethiopia has on Monday announced commencing network test service in eastern part of the country, Dire Dawa City.
It is stated that the network test is said will enable the company to make sure that the quality of the service is up-to the standard before the launching of the service across Ethiopia.
The network test in Dire Dawa includes 2G, 3G, and 4G services. Customers in Dire Dawa are invited by the company to take part in the network test by purchasing mobile telephone lines (sim cards) with 07 initial digits.
Using the new Safaricom line customers in Ethiopia are now able to make local phone calls and text messages including the state-owned Ethio Telecom network as well as international calls.
Customers can now purchase sim cards and top-up their airtime from Safaricom branded centers, according to the news disseminated by the ruling party-affiliate media – FBC.
It is recalled that the Government of Ethiopia has opened its telecom service for foreign companies a few years ago, which led to entrance of Safaricom-led consortium to the market after paying $850 million license fee to the Government.
