By Anwar Hussen – Ethio Telecom has launched the latest global technology product, the fifth-generation mobile service in Dire Dawa City of Ethiopia.

This latest 5G wireless network technology has been implemented only in limited countries worldwide. On Saturday the company announced the official launch of its 5G services in the East Region, Dire Dawa city, following its earlier official launch in Addis Ababa, Adama and Jigjiga cities.

“In line with this, our company has launched the 5G service in Dire Dawa city at seven areas: Sabian High School, Ashewa Marketplace, Kezira tele, B-Capital Hotel, Dire Dawa Poly Technic College, Tesfa Hotel, and Dire Dawa University,” said Ethio Telecom.

“The commercialization of 5G service will play a paramount role for our business customers in enhancing their productivity and efficiency, generating new revenues with next-generation applications, improving operations with real-time analytics, adapting quickly to changes in business dynamics, and delivering secure and fast access to mission-critical data. Additionally, it will significantly simplify the lives of our citizens and society.”

“Furthermore, the 5G service has tremendous significance for smart home, health services, hospital management, smart agriculture, education, industry/mining, manufacturing, smart airports and travel services, smart transportation, broadcasting & entertainment, as well as cloud-based 5G gaming,” according to the company.

The 5G wireless network technology offers the fastest speeds (up to 10 Gbps), low latency (less than 1 ms), and massive communication capability (up to 1 million connections within 1 km2), according to Ethio Telecom. “Specifically, it will have a significant impact on industries requiring mission-critical services, real-time decisions, manufacturing plants, remote healthcare, precision agriculture, self-driving vehicles, Internet of Things (IoT), and real-time operations, making them a reality,” it said.

“Our company has now commercialized its 5G service in Dire Dawa city and is ready to offer unlimited 5G data, 5G To The Home, and a variety of 5G mobile packages to our esteemed customers. To take advantage of these diverse services and mobile packages, our customers are required to have mobile devices and handsets that support 5G service,” the state owned telecom company said.
