Three days after Egypt President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s official visit, the delegation led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia today arrived Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, for official visit.
Prime Minister Abiy has met with Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss issues of mutual interest, according to the information from the Office of the Prime Minister.
“My greatest appreciation to my brother His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the warm welcome accorded to my delegation and I. We discussed bilateral and regional issues as well as explored ways of further strengthening our ties,” Abiy twitted.
The visit of Prime Minister Abiy to UAE has come three days after the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi visited Abu Dhabi. “I was pleased to welcome Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi as a dear guest to the UAE today. We discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding ties between our two nations. Our brotherly talks also covered issues related to regional stability & the wellbeing of our people,” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan twitted on January 26, 2022.
It recalled that Ethiopia and Egypt are at loggerheads in relation to the water filling of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) that uses Abay River contributing 86 percent of the water to the Nile, which flows to the downstream countries Sudan and Egypt. It is not clear if the UAE is trying to mediate the dispute between the two countries.
