The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has cancelled licenses of 26 political parties which failed to fulfil the requirement of the Board to participate in the next election.

Even though the Board has sent out letters to the political parties to fulfill all the requirements, the 26 political parties haven’t been able to do so, according to NEBE’s statement, which indicated that it has been verifying about genuineness of the documents submitted by the political parties.

Some of the political parties whose licenses are cancelled have failed to fulfil the minimum number of signatories to be considered as political parties by the Board, which recalled that it has been reregistering all political parties in the country based on the recently ratified law of the country. In Ethiopia over 100 political parties of which most are ethnic based were registered.
